Often when I am invited to do intake in a home it is with the spouse or daughter/son of the person I am meeting with. On many of these occasions, we are meeting because after taking care of their parent, aunt, uncle grandparent or even friend it has all become too overwhelming. Most don’t understand the amount of work and attention it takes. These great family/friend caregivers have tried very hard to be there for their loved ones. They feel it was expected of them or they were asked. What they did not expect was the time and effort it takes to be a caregiver to someone who may be bed-bound or chair bound. Their loved ones could be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or Dementia and are now in the latter stages of these horrific diseases. This means feeding, changing, bathing, companionship. Plus, the transfers from chair to bed or to the shower and then back again. Even monitoring for safety means you have to be alert almost constantly. Keep in mind that these wonderful family caregivers receive zero training. Most learn by doing.
So, these wonderful family/friend caregivers end up exhausted. Unfortunately, when this occurs they can become sick, have an accident or cause an in-home accident. That is where we can help. We can provide skilled certified caregivers that can be there in your home with just a couple of hours’ notice. We can provide respite help from 1 hour to 24 hours or live-in. We can do this for 1 day or all days. And we do it usually for less.
